In addition to the National Park, the Fertő-Hanság National Park Directorate is responsible for the maintenance and management of other protected areas of national importance, such as the 3 Protected Landscape Areas (Pannonhalma, Szigetköz and Sopron), and 9 more Nature Protection Areas. The operational area of ​​the Fertő-Hanság National Park Directorate actually extends from Bakonyalja to the Sopron-Mountains, from the Danube to the meadows and oak groves of Rábaköz.

NATURA 2000, BIOSPHERE RESERVE, RAMSAR SITE, WORLD HERITAGE

The natural areas in the national park were given the status of the current highest level of protection, the title of national park, at the time of its establishment and subsequent expansions, but some of its sub-areas fall under the scope of not only domestic but also international protection agreements. Even before the creation of the national park, in 1979 the Fertő landscape was declared a Biosphere Reserve within the framework of the UNESCO-MAB Program, and since 1989 it has been a Ramsar site under the Ramsar Convention, which aims to help preserve wetlands. Based on the decision of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 13th December 2001 the Fertő landscape was given the status of a world heritage site. Since 2006 the Nyirkai-Hanyi wetland has also been included in the Ramsar sites.

In the operational area of ​​the Fertő-Hanság National Park Directorate, there are countless natural beauties, protected landscape values ​​and areas, home to protected and specially protected animals and plants. There are currently 10 highly protected plant species and approximately 210 more protected plant species, while e.g. among mammal species, 9 highly protected and 38 protected animal species occur in the operational area.
